First up, Dan Hibiki joins the game this Winter alongside a New Battle Mechanic, New Battle Balance, and the new CPT 2021 stage. In Spring 2021, Rose and her new stage will be added. In Summer 2021, Akira Kazama from Rival Schools will make a guest appearance and will bring along her Rival Schools-themed stage! Oro will also join the roster in Summer 2021. Finally, one additional (unrevealed) character will join the game in Fall 2021 with the CPT 2022 stage (yes, that confirms Capcom Pro Tour 2022). Below, watch the full Summer Update reveal and see the official character art for all upcoming characters! [UPDATE] Added high-res concept art / developer commentary.

SFV Producer Matsumoto and Director Nakayama shared some additional details & commentary on Season 5's newcomers with PlayStation Blog:
Did we catch you by surprise? We’re thrilled to share that the fourth character in Season V is Akira Kazama from the Rival Schools series! This will be Akira’s first appearance in a Street Fighter game, but it’s not her first foray against members of the Street Fighter cast. Akira has previously faced off against Sakura, who appeared as a guest character in Rival Schools: United by Fate. A quick note from the SFV Dev Team:

We are currently developing Akira so that we utilize Rival School’s originality as well as incorporating new ways to play. We can’t wait to share more on how Akira’s playstyle will evolve for Street Fighter V!

Rose, a Fortune Teller working in Genoa, Italy, is able to utilize her unique Soul Power. She’s also Menat’s Master and teacher. Originally from the Street Fighter Alpha series, Rose has a mysterious connection with M. Bison.

Her fighting style was originally designed to have strong anti-projectile and anti-air attacks. Please look forward to how she has changed for SFV when she’s added to the game in the future! We also remember that the Soul Satellite was pretty strong back in Street Fighter IV, so please tune in for more information on that as well!

Dan Hibiki has always had a dominating and unique fighting style with the “Saikyo-ryu” style and his trademark “Taunt.” He’s also known for his quest to avenge his father, Gou Hibiki, who was defeated by Sagat. You may have spotted his sister, Yuriko Hibiki in the in-game store!

Dan’s new special move is “Danretsuken,” a multiple punch attack which debuted as one of Dan’s moves in Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Omega Mode. Finally, Dan’s “Taunt” has evolved, making it much more useful in battle!

We look forward to showing you more in the future.

The mysterious hermit with superhuman strength, Oro makes his long-awaited comeback in Street Fighter V next summer! But, he’s already been around for a while, hasn’t he? Have you noticed Oro making appearances in Street Fighter V? Quick note from the SFV dev team: Oro’s age is over 130 years old and, apparently, he refers to Dhalsim as “Youngster.”
Oro originally appeared as a brand new character in Street Fighter III: New Generation, and quickly became a fan favorite. With one of the most unconventional playstyles in Street Fighter history, Oro uses only one of his arms to fight by utilizing various unorthodox attacks, including balls of light and pulling rocks from the ground to orbit around him as a shield. Although you can see he has both arms out in this sketch, one of them is holding… a turtle! This is actually a part of Oro’s fighting style, as he challenges himself to keep the turtle in his hand balanced during the fight. How will this affect his moves in Street Fighter V? We’ll find out soon enough!

Additionally, Capcom announced a free trial of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition on PS4 with all 40 characters selectable - available for download now until August 19th. SFV: Champion Edition is also discounted on Steam / PS4 right now, so it's a great time to pick up the game!

It's been 20 years since we last were able to control the likes of Street Fighter 3's mysterious and powerful turtle hermit and it'll still be another year yet before we get him in Street Fighter 5, but Capcom has revealed that Oro is en route as a DLC character for SF5's fifth and final season.

As we saw with Akira, Rose, and Dan last week Capcom has posted a new sketch image of Oro to the Street Fighter Twitter page. This one appears a bit more introspective than the first, which sees Oro hoisting his turtle up above his head, as the old hermit gazes directly into the eyes of his pet.

Though we didn't see much of this turtle figure in Oro's Street Fighter 3 appearance, it looks to be front and center for the character now. Street Fighter 5 Director, Takayuki Nakayama, was sure to point out that he and his team are designing Oro to have some sort of special balance mechanic involving his reptilian friend.

For those who didn't play a ton of Third Strike, this old fighter is so powerful that he uses some of his own magic to bind one of his arms into a sling. He does this so as to even out fights as he'd presumably roll through all comers given the use of both hands. This theme looks to continue in an interesting way in SF5 as both arms are out, but the turtle must be accounted for.

This is the fourth of such sketches Capcom has released in recent weeks as we also got new looks at Dan, Rose, and Akira. We've included these in the gallery below for those of you haven't seen them yet or that simply want to check them out once more.

We also tagged on an image of the timeline schedule developers released so you can more easily get a vivid picture of when to expect what. Let us know in the comments how hype you are for Oro and friends and perhaps who you speculate the fifth and final character to be.
